Otto Blümel was born in Augsburg Germany. After having studied archictecture at
the technical University in Munich, he dedicated himself to the Arts,
in particular to painting.
He attended the well-known Debitsch School and he lectured drawing at
the Vereinigten Werkstätten für Kunst im Handwerk in Munich, which was
leading in interior design. His furniture design from that period are
still very much valued today.
In 1916 Otto Blümel was invited to work with the Partenkirchner
Schnitzschule and worked as a director of this school between
1920 and 1949. He founded the Museumsverein Werdenfels and from
that museums community the Heimatmuseum (folklore museum) came
into being in 1925 for which he was the honorary director during
40 years.
Education, the mountains and the Arts were his world. He was an honorary citizien
of Garmisch-Partenkirchen and received a cross merit of ribbon. Blümel‘s most famous
design is his
Coat Rack Nymphenburg
which is still displayed in the archive of the Vereinigten Werkstätten and of which
ClassiCon owns the sole right for re-edition.
